Redfern announces general availability of generation II of their high performance fixed dispersion compensators.
Redfern Optical Components Pty Ltd (Redfern), a leading supplier of submarine and dispersion compensating fibre Bragg grating (FBG) products, announces the general availability of generation II of their high performance fixed dispersion compensation products for application to 10 and 40 Gbps optical fiber telecommunications.
Redfern's CEO Dr Mark Englund was quoted as saying “Our generation II fixed dispersion compensator product family offers a step improvement in system penalty performance whilst maintaining very low insertion loss, small footprint, low latency and high thresholds for non-linearities. System penalty specifications per FBG compensator of less than 0.3 dB are now possible on the new generation 40 Gbps modulation formats. With the deployment of 40 Gbps accelerating this year we are finding a rapid up-turn in the interest in fixed FBG based dispersion compensators. Our fixed FBG based compensators are still finding application inter-stage but are increasingly being used at the terminal ends where the performance versus cost of a fixed FBG compensator together with no power consumption is very compelling.”
Redfern was founded in 1999 to supply optical fibre components based on fibre Bragg grating (FBG) technology. With its patented manufacturing process, ROC DirectRite™, Redfern is uniquely positioned to provide high fidelity, high reliability FBG products for mission critical applications in optical fibre telecommunications. Redfern is ISO certified, Telecordia and HiREL qualified and has been supplying telecom grade FBG products in volume since 2006.

Redfern Optical Components announces the launch of high performance DFB fibre laser products for sensing and telecommunications.
Redfern Optical Components Pty Ltd (Redfern), a leading supplier of submarine and dispersion compensating fibre Bragg grating products, announces the general availability of a new high performance DFB fibre laser product for application to sensing and telecommunications.
Redfern's CEO Dr Mark Englund was quoted as saying "The recently updated ROC DirectRite™ process has delivered a DFB fibre laser product with a substantial improvement in operational performance. The RDR4000 series of DFB fibre lasers offers superior side lobe suppression and very narrow free running linewidth. They also operate robustly in single frequency and a single polarisation mode. This combination of attributes makes them ideal sources for coherent communications and interrogation of interferometric sensors. They are also used as ultra high performance sensor elements for acoustic and geotechnical sensing."
